Homicide confirmed in Englewood as authorities investigate

Bergen County officials are investigating an apparent homicide in Englewood Saturday.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office confirmed the fatality on Mevan Avenue but offered no other details. The identity of the victim was not released as of Saturday morning and officials did not confirm the cause of death or state any arrest information.

Mayor Michael Wildes said Saturday afternoon that law enforcement officials informed him that there is "no perceptible risk" to community residents in the wake of the reported homicide, though it is unclear if a suspect has been identified or found.

"I've been given every assurance that the community is not at risk and that this is under control," he said.

Wildes said officials from the local police department and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office had been on scene in the city's 4th Ward all day. The investigating was ongoing shortly before 3:30 p.m.

Law enforcement had been seen on the scene late with police tape wrapped around a portion of the block.
