DA: Homicide investigation underway after man found dead in Sharon home
A homicide investigation is underway after a man was found dead in his home in Sharon on Thursday, law enforcement officials announced Friday.
Local police and state police detectives launched the investigation after a relative found Brad Larson, 62, suffering from serious injuries in his home on 78 Deerfield Road and contacted authorities, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey and Sharon Police Chief Stephen M. Coffey said.
Larson was subsequently pronounced dead by emergency crews that responded to the call.
“There will be obvious police activity in the area around that home through much of the day today,” Coffey said. “Neighbors should be assured that, given what we know at this time, there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood or the town related to this incident.”
Neighbors and friends of murder victim 62-year-old Brad Larson are in shock that he was killed.
“Not in a million years, not in a million years, it doesn’t add up. It doesn’t make sense,” said Valerie Vigoda who lives just across the street from Larson’s home at 78 Deerfield Road.
Larson was well-liked and highly regarded in Sharon. Neighbors tell Boston 25 that he was a past president of the town’s historical society. They posted a tribute on social media. Friends there can’t believe he’s gone.
“I was completely floored just couldn’t believe the news,” said Paul Lauenstein, who is a board member of the Sharon Historical Society and a friend of Larson.
Neighbors say Larson loved the outdoors and was devoted to his teenage son who lived with him part-time.
An autopsy will be performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as early as Friday, according to Morrissey.
“Investigators from the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section responded last night to process the home for potential physical evidence,” Morrissey said.
Police told neighbors they are not in danger.
“To me that would say that this is somehow targeted to Brad whatever that means and I can’t imagine why that would be,” said Vigoda.
She says she will miss Larson who was always positive and who she says was a gentle soul.
‘I’m filled with disbelief, sadness, shock and I am going to miss him terribly. We were good friends, and we were good neighbors.”
Sharon Schools put out the following information
“As some of you have seen in the news, we have just learned that a parent of one of our Sharon High School students was tragically killed in his home.
The family of Mr. Larson deserves privacy and our sympathy and consideration at this time. Before our return to school next Monday, we invite parents and caregivers to talk with their children about feelings associated with the sudden loss of a family member. Should the subject come up at school, our staff will be prepared to respond to this sad news with sensitivity and compassion, while supporting children in need.
Please join me in extending our sincere sympathy and support to the family of Mr. Brad Larson.”
There have been no arrests made in connection with Larson’s death.
