Homophobic citizens force gay owners of Manitoba restaurant out of business
MORRIS, Man. - Two gay men who own a restaurant in rural Manitoba are closing the business because of homophobic insults.
Dave Claringbould (KLARE'-ing-bohld) says several residents in the town of Morris have uttered slurs against him and his partner in the Pots N Hands eatery and around the community.
He says a customer once asked if he could catch a disease off his plate of food.
Supportive emails and phone calls have poured in from across the country and many people in town have asked the couple to keep the restaurant open.
Claringbould says he has experienced homophobia in a small town before and knows some people will never change their attitudes.
The restaurant is to close its doors on April 13.
