Hong Kong’s Olympic champ Edgar Cheung Ka-long wins fencing World Cup gold
Olympic fencing star Edgar Cheung Ka-long won another historic gold for Hong Kong at the FIE (International Fencing Federation) World Cup in Paris over the weekend.
Cheung, who made history last year by winning Hong Kong’s first Olympic gold medal in fencing, took home gold again on Saturday, reported South China Morning Post.

Currently No. 4 in the men’s foil global ranking, the 24-year-old fencer dominated Italy’s Alessio Foconi – the world’s No. 1 male foil fencer – with a score of 15-4 in the semifinal before defeating Italy’s Edoardo Luperi with a score of 15-12 in the final.
Cheung gained attention throughout the event, beating France’s Alexandre Ediri with a score of 15-13 and South Korea’s Ha Tae-gyu with a score of 15-14. He also beat South Korea’s Kim Dong-su 15-5 and France’s Enzo Lefort 15-9.
In a Facebook post, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam congratulated Cheung, noting that he has made Hong Kong very proud.
Cheung, whose parents both played national league basketball in China and Hong Kong, has set his sights on winning gold at the 2022 Asian Games in China and competing at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
