Honkai: Star Rail dropped another huge lore bomb on players with the release of the ‘Myriad Celestia Trailer: The Jepella Rebellion – Scene 47’ on Sunday (13 August), where they finally revealed all of the Stellaron Hunters, including a previously unseen member, Sam.

The Jepella Rebellion trailer showed the Stellaron Hunters up to their usual shenanigans in pursuit of yet another Stellaron.

As the dashing face of the group, the femme fatale Kafka takes up much of the spotlight, letting herself be judged in a court of the Jepella Brotherhood. However, she later reveals that she had been using her ‘Spirit Whisper’ ability to keep the jurors unaware that the Stellaron Hunters had incited a rebellion in the planet to facilitate their escape.

Towards the end, we see the members of the Stellaron Hunters we know – Kafka, the genius hacker Silver Wolf, and the immortal swordsman Blade – all looking badass in suits.

The group’s other known but previously unseen member, Sam, is also finally revealed to be an imposing, Gundam-like mechanical being with fire spewing out through vents in his armor.

Aside from context clues, we can also confirm that the mecha is indeed Sam thanks to the description of the Chinese version of the Jepella Rebellion trailer on Bilibili. The video’s description lists the present characters and their respective voice actors, with Sam being included.

Sam is voiced by Adin Rudd in English, Jun Kasama in Japanese, and Ganzi Ziye in Chinese.

Fittingly for Sam being a mechanical being, his English and Japanese voice actors have voiced other mechanical characters before.

Adin Rudd voiced the Decepticon Scrapface in the Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy while Jun Kasama voiced Kyoya Kujo from 2018’s Gundam Build Divers.

As for their other roles, Adin Rudd also voiced the male Hunter from Monster Hunter Rise and Archie from Pokémon Masters. Meanwhile, Jun Kasama voiced Wilibald Koenig from Saga of Tanya the Evil and Mugino from Boruto.

I don’t know about you, but this trailer has made us excited for Sam to become playable so we can menace the universe with a full Stellaron Hunter team.

While the Stellaron Hunter Sam has yet to make an in-game appearance and was only shown for the first time in the Jepella Rebellion trailer, he has been mentioned in the lore of his fellow Stellaron Hunters.

In Blade and Silver Wolf’s Character Story entries, Sam is present when they are both recruited to the Stellaron Hunters.

In Blade’s Character Story III, he resurrects from another death and finds himself before Kafka while an “imposing armor” grappled him and locked him in its arms while staying quiet. Meanwhile, Silver Wolf’s Character Story IV shows four members of the Stellaron Hunters were present during her recruitment, a man (Blade), a woman (Kafka), and a metal humanoid (Sam).

With Sam’s appearance finally being revealed, it makes sense how Blade and Silver Wolf described him as an imposing armor and a mechanical being during their first meetings.

The Trailblazer has also actually interacted with Sam briefly. One of the daily messages a player can receive will show it came from Blade, who sends an attachment the Trailblazer can’t open followed by stickers of Pom-Pom and Blade.

Silver Wolf then takes over and reveals that the Trailblazer was actually being messaged by Sam, who had been using Blade’s phone and mistakenly sent them Blade’s part of the ‘script’ given to them by their leader.

It’s honestly adorable how Sam is shown as this badass and quiet mechanical being that messes around with his fellow Stellaron Hunters, stealing Blade’s phone and communicating with stickers.

Aside from those, there’s also evidence that Sam is the very first Stellaron Hunter recruited into the group by its founder and leader, Elio, also known as ‘Destiny’s Slave’.

Kafka’s Character Story IV shows a ‘Wanted Order by Destiny’s Slave’, which includes instructions telling someone to go to Kafka’s home planet of Pteruges-V and wait to meet her in an abandoned building there. It’s safe to say that this is how Kafka was recruited into the group.

While the one actually present to meet Kafka is not specified, the pattern of how the remaining Stellaron Hunters were recruited indicates that it was Sam.

The ones to recruit Blade were Kafka and Sam while Silver Wolf met Kafka, Sam, and Blade in her own recruitment. Since all prior Stellaron Hunter members are present when recruiting new members, we can surmise that Sam was the first member recruited by Elio and that he was the one to recruit Kafka, later being present in recruiting Blade and Silver Wolf.

But while Sam’s reveal is definitely the highlight of the Jepella Rebellion trailer, it may have also revealed another very important member of the Stellaron Hunters…

Is Elio the cat?

Elio the Destiny’s Slave is the founder and leader of the Stellaron Hunters. Herta describes him as “a maniac that claims he can see destiny, leading a bunch of wild lunatics in pursuit of the most dangerous objects in the universe”, with those objects being the Stellarons.

In the Xianzhou Luofu Trailblaze Mission ‘Wood Sprouts Anew, Fate Tilts Askew’, Kafka revealed to the Trailblazer that Elio’s plans will culminate with him facing and killing Nanook, the Aeon of Destruction. Everything that the Stellaron Hunters do is in pursuit of this future, which Elio writes in his so-called ‘scripts’.

But while Elio figures prominently in the story of Honkai: Star Rail, he has yet to be shown to the player and almost all of the characters in the game, except for the Stellaron Hunters, don’t know what he looks like. Well, until now.

Kafka’s splash art shows her in the middle of a crowd of people with umbrellas, with Silver Wolf and Blade among them. But at Kafka and Blade’s feet sits a black cat, conspicuously looking at the player like Kafka does. Since Silver Wolf and Blade also appear in Kafka’s splash art, many assumed that it shows the Stellaron Hunters, or at least some of them.

The black cat also appears at the end of the Jepella Rebellion trailer alongside the other Stellaron Hunters. With it now showing up twice among the Stellaron Hunters and all other members of the group now known, it only leaves Elio as its possible identity.

The fact that no one else knows what Elio looks like supports this theory, as who could even guess that the leader of the fearsome Stellaron Hunters is just a cat?

Now, this doesn’t confirm that Elio himself is a cat. It may be that the cat is some sort of familiar through which Elio communicates with the Stellaron Hunters while they’re out on missions while he stays hidden behind the scenes.

Even so, the presence of the black cat means that Elio may be closer to finally making his appearance than we previously thought…
