The three locals who advanced to the IHSA state finals were, from left, Brooke Corrigan, Avery Miles and Gracie Colvin. They all earned state medals on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, in Westmont.

Three Rockford-area athletes earned medals at the Illinois High School Association girls swimming and diving state championships that concluded on Saturday.

Hononegah senior Gracie Colvin led the way, and slammed the door on her prep career by finaling in two events in back-to-back years.

"I feel like this was a good way to end it," Colvin said. She helped Hononegah earn its first sectional team title last weekend. "This was one of the best teams we've ever had here, and then this was a good run at state, and good finish for everything."

Colvin took seventh in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.33, and then returned to place eighth in the 100 butterfly in 56.19.

"She did, she really wanted to make that 'A Final,' and she was close," Hononegah coach Brian McGuire said. "But what she was able to do here the past two years was pretty impressive. And she's got more to prove."

Colvin is expected to sign a letter of intent to swim on a full-ride scholarship to Arkansas this coming Tuesday.

Brooke Corrigan, the Rockford Christian sophomore, placed ninth in the 50 free in 23.55, and she also placed 12th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.05.

McGuire's other state qualifier, Hononegah sophomore Avery Miles, took 11th in the 200 free in 1:53.23.

"She really had a solid swim in that 200 free," McGuire said. "She's a sophomore, and that was her lifetime best, so she showed what she's capable of. She'll be back."

The other state qualifiers from the area did not make it out of Friday's state preliminaries.
