You can almost taste the chewy chocolate chips, sweet sugar cookies, soft snickerdoodles and crunchy peanut butter as we celebrate National Cookie Day.

Forget about the fat and calories for one day and enjoy the sugar high. But watch out because it is habit-forming. There are so many flavors that you can't sample them all in just one day or even a week

Last year, the cookie category surpassed $10 billion in annual sales, according to Forbes.

There are several stores in Anderson County selling cookies. Here are some discounts and freebies for residents to take advantage of for the holiday.

Subway is offering a free footlong chocolate chip cookie with the purchase of a 12-inch sandwich between 1 and 6 p.m. local time at select restaurants.

The footlong cookie will become a permanent menu item nationwide in 2024. The sandwich chain also offers rewards to members for a free cookie with the purchase of a 6- or 12-inch sandwich.

Insomnia Cookies

Insomnia Cookies offers app users a free cookie or $1 deluxe cookie when they show associates in the Insomnia app or order through delivery.

When rewards members order six cookies, they can receive six free cookies and when they order 12 cookies online they can receive 12 free cookies.

Cookie Magic members can receive six free cookies by presenting their membership card.

Circle K

Circle K is offering app users a free freshly baked cookie at participating locations.

Dunkin' Donuts

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 cups (12-ounce package) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

  • 1 cup chopped nuts (Optional). If omitted, add 1 to 2 Tbsp. Of all-purpose flour.)
