WJBF – Did you know that renown opera singer, Jessye Norman was born right here in Augusta, Georgia?

Jessye Norman was born on September 15th, 1945 and her voice was once described as a “Grand Mansion of Sound.”

In 1984, Norman won the Grammy award for Best Classical Vocal Solo, the first of five Grammys in her career.

In 2003, Norman partnered with another foundation to open the Jessye Norman School of the Arts right here in Augusta.
