Hood announces conclusion of six-year fundraising campaign, the biggest in college history

Sep. 22—Hood College on Friday announced the conclusion of its "Forging the Future" fundraising campaign, which raised nearly $75 million over six years.

The campaign launched in September 2017, according to a college news release. Its initial goal was to raise $50 million.

It ended up being the "largest and most successful philanthropic effort in the College's 130-year history," the news release said.

More than 4,800 donors funded the campaign, the release said. It said 43% of Hood's employees donated.

The campaign funded 13 new or expanded academic majors, the addition of the Ruth Whitaker Holmes School of Behavioral and Health Sciences and the founding of the Data Driven Frederick Center.

It also helped fund renovations to the Beneficial-Hodson Library and Learning Commons and the Hodson Science and Technology Center.

The campaign led to 43 new named scholarships at the college and raised $25 million overall for scholarships.

"When we began this campaign, our first in more than 25 years, we could only have dreamt of the groundbreaking success we have now realized," college President Andrea Chapdelaine said in the news release. "For that, on behalf of our students, we thank every member of the Hood community and beyond who helped us achieve our ambitious goals.
