After a one-year hiatus for COVID-19, the Hoodoo Mural Festival returned for its second year promoting Amarillo’s downtown public art. Among featured artists was local group Blank Spaces.

Organizers of the 2022 Hoodoo Mural festival are looking for local artists, DJs and food vendors who are interested in joining them for their third outdoor music and art festival, to be held in downtown Amarillo on Oct. 1.

This year's musical lineup will include popular music acts from across the country, including Neil Frances, Flamingosis, Kaelin Ellis, and Little Jet, with acclaimed muralists Tristan Eaton, It's A Living, Drew Merritt, and Rabi. In addition to this show-stopping lineup, festival organizers are in search of residents throughout the Texas Panhandle to submit their work for a chance to officially become one of the 2022 muralists, as well as one of the DJs within the festival’s Silent Disco.

Aspiring muralists can apply for one of eight open slots by submitting some of their work to the organizers. Once determined, the muralists will receive access to paint a sky-high mural in downtown Amarillo on the outdoor wall of the former Edward S. Burgess Lumber Company Building, located at 418 S. Tyler St., which will be revealed during the festival in October.

"We started this in 2019 as a way to bring free community art to our city, and we really wanted to focus all of our local artists and musicians and vendors in addition to the nationally acclaimed talent that we bring in. We want to show what Amarillo has to offer and celebrate our community with this festival," said Andrew Hall, festival founder and president of the Hoodoo Art Foundation.

Up-and-coming DJs are also encouraged to sign up and join in the weekend festivities as a performer at thefestival’s Silent Disco. The Silent Disco at Hoodoo was first introduced to fans last fall to much acclaim and willreturn this fall, offering daylong DJ sets from more than 10 local acts. During the festival, individuals will have the chance to switch between several DJs' sets via headphones, which will be provided for attendees.

"This is about revitalizing downtown Amarillo and drawing individuals to the heart of our city. It's about getting individuals off of I-40 and experiencing what our town and community has to offer," Hall said. "We're not just a stopping point to the next place. This is a destination that people should really take time to stop and experience, and we are happy to be a part of that."

In an effort to elevate the culinary offerings at this year’s Hoodoo, the team has also expanded this year’sonsite experience to now include a curated selection of local restaurants and food trucks in the VIP lounge. The festival organizers are inviting local restaurants to apply to become an official onsite vendor. According to Hall, the Hoodoo Mural Festival is searching for a variety of culinary options, each offering their own unique Amarillo taste.
