Hope women top Alma behind Claire Baguley's career-high 26

ALMA - After the first quarter, it looked as though Alma College was going to run with the No. 4 Hope College women's basketball team.

The first quarter was fast paced and high scoring.

The same was true of the second quarter, but the defending NCAA champions were the only ones scoring.

Hope used a 23-8 advantage in the second quarter to defeat Alma 88-62 on Wednesday on the road.

Claire Baguely poured in a career-high 26 points to lead the Flying Dutch (12-1). Hope improved to 3-1 in the MIAA.

Baguley was 10-for-12 from the field, including 3-for-4 from 3-point range.

Savannah Feenstra, the reigning MIAA Player of the Week, scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Ella McKinney scored 14 points and Jada Ganer had 11 off the bench for Hope.

The Flying Dutch shot 43% from the field and made eight 3s (35%). The team went 18-for-28 from the free-throw line (64%). Hope won the rebounding battle 48-31 and had 21 points off of turnovers, compared with just six for Alma. The Flying Dutch also had 40 points in the paint.

The Scots dropepd to 4-9 and 2-2 in the MIAA. Anna Richards led Alma with 15 points.
