Horn Lake Police Chief Troy Rowell is set to retire effective June 30.

"We're going to miss him, he's done an excellent, excellent job," Horn Lake Mayor Allen Latimer said. "We're always ranked in the top 10 safest cities in Mississippi and that's due to community involvement and the police being well trained."

Rowell was appointed Horn Lake Police Chief in 2017 and has been with the department since 1999. Prior to that, Rowell served in the Air Force.

Latimer said Rowell will make his recommendation for who will replace him in writing to the Board of Alderman but has not made it yet.

"We are blessed that we have a well-trained police force and the officers right under him are both highly qualified," Latimer said. "And any of them would make an excellent police chief. So, [we'll] just wait and see who he recommends in writing."

Latimer wants someone who is "just like Chief Rowell" for the job of new Horn Lake Police Chief, he said.

"[Someone] that is thoroughly honest, believes in treating all the citizens equally and that is committed to keeping our city safe and our citizens safe. And our businesses safe," Latimer said. "Someone who is approachable, who is concerned about letting the citizens know that the police are on their side, and being visible to the community."

The Horn Lake Police Department has 55 officers, according to Facebook.
