Hornell man, 93, dies after being struck by vehicle on Genesee Street

A Hornell man died Sept. 30 after he was struck by a motor vehicle on Genesee Street.

Police said John V. Prete, 93, of 1705 county Route 109, had just left the Hornell Post Office and was crossing Genesee Street when he was struck by a westbound vehicle at about 2:40 p.m.

Prete was taken to St. James Hospital in Hornellsville by a Hornell Fire Department ambulance. He was later flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where he died from his injuries, Hornell Police Chief T.J. Murray said.

The driver of the vehicle, a male Hornell resident who police have not identified, was cited for failure to exercise due care to a pedestrian in the roadway.
