Malvern’s first home game in nearly a month resulted in a 75-22 win over Newcomerstown.

Seven players scored in the opening quarter as the Hornets jumped out to a 25-4 advantage. Michael Minor led the way with eight points, KJ Thomas had six, and Mitchell Minor and Connor Lefevre both hit 3-pointers.

Malvern scored the first 11 points of the second stanza to stretch its lead to 36-4. The Hornets would go on to take a 42-10 advantage into the break. Lefevre hit two more 3-pointers during the quarter, and Dylan Phillips and Thomas both had four points.

Malvern increased its lead to 54-19 after three quarters were in the books, and were never threatened the rest of the way.

Thomas paced the way with 17 points, six assists and four rebounds; Phillips tallied 14 points; Michael Minor had 13 points and three boards; Lefevre had nine points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists; Mitchell Minor had nine points and six rebounds; Noah Ball had six points, seven assists and five rebounds; and Ibai Aguirre had six points and three rebounds.

“We needed a game like this,” stated Head Coach Dennis Tucci. “We have had some tough games, and we haven't had a home game since Dec. 28.

“Our half-court defense was solid, and we made it tough on the Trojans to score. Offensively, we did a little bit of everything. KJ had a career-high 17 points, Dylan had a career-high 14 points, and Michael also scored in double figures. Noah had a great all-around game, leading us with seven assists. I was happy with Ibai, Seth (Kandel), and Drake (DeLong) getting their most playing time of the season."

The Hornets are 11-3 overall and remain unbeaten in the IVC North Division at 7-0.
