The Horror of Dolores Roach spoilers follow.

The Horror of Dolores Roach stars, Justina Machado and Alejandro Hernandez, have broken down that shocking finale in which Dolores betrayed her sidekick, Luis.

The Sweeney Todd-inspired TV series follows Machado's Dolores after she is released from prison after an unjust sentence. However, her newfound freedom is then threatened, forcing Dolores to go to extreme measures to protect herself.

The Prime Video show features plenty of gory deaths, and the finale ramped it up a notch. Luis used Nellie (Kita Updike) to cover up the crimes he and Dolores carried out, but Nellie was later arrested in connection to multiple disappearances.

In a new interview with TV Line, Machado explained that it was Luis' use of Nellie that made Dolores realise that Luis had to be killed off, too.

"Dolores doesn’t kill people because she wants to. In her mind, Dolores kills people that get in her way – that threaten her livelihood, threaten who she is," Machado said.

The way in which Dolores tried to kill off Luis was particularly brutal. She shoves his head into a vat of boiling hot oil. Hernandez, who plays Luis, also spoke about this shocking sequence, "It’s just utter, utter, betrayal," he said.

"And just like heartbroken. To a certain extent, he’s probably like, man, what did I do wrong? What could I have done to make [Dolores] not do that?"

It remains to be seen if Luis survived the incident or not, but fans are already wondering if the character will return for a potential season two. Hernandez, as expected, played it coy.

"The world of Dolores is a mysterious one. There’s always a lot of things popping up and we’ll see what happens with Luis. I mean, it looks like he’s kind of down for the count, unfortunately," he said.

The Horror of Dolores Roach is available to watch now on Prime Video.
