Horry County Police K9 being remembered for his ‘big personality.’ He passed away Sunday

Horry County Police K9 Bram has passed away after undergoing emergency surgery, the police department posted on its Facebook page Sunday.

Bram was a 7-year-old explosives detection dog from the Czech Republic that has served the police department since 2017. He was the first police K9 to be assigned to the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

“The HCPD family is mourning the loss,” the Facebook post said.

On Saturday, Bram experienced a serious medical emergency and staff veterinarian Dr. Jade Guilbeau at the Horry County Animal Center attempted emergency surgery about midnight, the post said. Despite efforts and care, Bram’s condition deteriorated too quickly and the surgery was unsuccessful.

Bram was described as having a “big personality,” walking the airport concourses “like he was the president of it,” the post said. Bram enjoyed a good ball, tracking down explosives and posing with community members and celebrities alike, the post said.

“Last night I lost the greatest partner ever, and my family lost a loyal, loving friend,” Bram’s handler Lance Cpl. Burke said in the post.
