Horse chased down on Kentucky highway has a new home

Sept. 27 (UPI) -- A horse has a new home after being wrangled on a Kentucky highway by a member of the public with help from sheriff's deputies and state police.

Kohl Centers said he was traveling south on Interstate 75 when he saw a horse wandering in the roadway.

"There was no officers there. There was nothing. It's just the owner of the horse, and everybody else was just driving around it," Centers told WKYT-TV.

Centers called 911 and the chase was soon joined by Madison County deputies and a pair of state troopers.

"It ran from us about two or three times, so we finally, after I got ahold of the horse, that's when I was just like, well, let's just get off the Interstate. Let's let traffic through because it was backed up forever," Centers said.

Centers used a dog leash to lead the horse off the highway. He said the entire chase lasted for more than four hours.

"I ended up walking the horse from Clays Ferry all the way up to exit 99, and we got up there. It took a little bit of time," Centers said.

Lexington County Animal Care and Control said in a Facebook post that the horse, named Fast Betty, "is safe and sound at her new home in Paris."

"They call her Fast Betty, but she really took her time getting back in the trailer," the post said.
