Horse named Bella rescued by North Texas firefighters after getting stuck in mud

North Texas firefighters and volunteers rescued a horse named Bella who was stuck in thick mud up to her belly in Copper Canyon on Sunday morning.

Crews from Denton County Emergency Services District #1 and Double Oak Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call and found the large Belgian draft horse stuck in the mud next to a stock pond, the Denton County agency said in a Facebook post.

“Firefighters dug through the mud and created space underneath the horse to fit ropes to help get the animal out,” the post read.

A veterinarian was on the scene with medication and assisted in taking care of Bella, authorities said.

She is resting Monday with IV fluids, food and water.

“Thanks to the team consisting of firefighters, volunteers, veterinarians, and citizens that were involved in this rescue,” the post read. “Feel better soon, Bella! We’ll bring you a carrot when you’re up and about again!”
