Horse races and moonlight movies among weekend events in Shreveport and Bossier City

Shreveport and Bossier City are making the most of the final days of summer, with plenty of fun activities scheduled for this weekend.

Events include movies under the stars, parties at the new Bakowski Bridge of Lights and a day at the horse races.

Here's what's happening:

Friday, Aug. 5

  • Twilight Talkies at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery:  A showing of the hit musical "Sing" starts at 8 p.m. on the gallery's lawn, 4747 Creswell Ave. in Shreveport. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with local food trucks Hot Dawg Hut, El Eden, Frios Gourmet Pops, Dripp Donuts and Mama's Popcorn.

  • GLO Fest at Riverview Park: The Shreveport and Bossier Arts Council are throwing a Glo Fest with a new light show on the Bakowski Bridge of Lights on the Texas Street Bridge. Enjoy live music, an arts market, a kids area, food trucks and street performers from 7 p.m. 10 p.m.

  • Bingo on the Bayou at East Ridge Country Club: The 6th annual FUNdraiser is $60 to participate. For information, email Kathy at development@ccnla.org. The East Ridge Country Club is at 1000 Stewart Drive in Shreveport.

Saturday, Aug. 6

  • Louisiana Cup Day at Louisiana Downs Casino and Racetrack:  Six stakes races are scheduled featuring Louisiana-bred horses, along with family-friendly activities, live music and food trucks. The event begins at noon at the racetrack, 8000 E. Texas St. in Bossier City.

  • 5th Annual Ratchet City Music Fest at the State Fair of Louisiana Fair Grounds: The one-day festival, at 3701 Hudson Ave. in Shreveport, celebrates the city's culture. It includes food, a car show, arts, a fashion show and live music. Tickets, $10 plus fees and tax, can be purchased at the Ratchet City Music Fest website.
