Hospice Touch-a-Truck event allows children and adults get to up close to big vehicles
CAMBRIDGE − As cars filled the grassy field at the Deerassic Park Education Center, hundreds of kids and adults waited to get a closeup look at some of the vehicles that serve this community. Numerous trucks, semis and first responder vehicles participated in the Hospice of Guernsey annual Touch-a-Truck event.
Hospice returned with the United Way once again to Deerassic, offering free lunch, games for the children, various raffles and fun.
Boy Scout Troop 511 was on hand selling fried doughnuts, while representatives from various organizations passed out goodies to attendees. Blue Racer, the Guernsey County Library Bookmobile, and the Cambridge Performing Arts Centre, among others, were on-site visiting with families.
Trucks from Pine Tree Towing, Lanzer, R.J. Wright and Sons and ProVia kept guests climbing and honking horns throughout the day. The first hour of the event was scheduled as a quiet hour, with no loud noises to accommodate those with sensitivities.
The back half of the field was a sea of red and blue lights as representatives from the Cambridge Police Department, the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Antrim fire department greeted children. United Ambulance was also present, along with park rangers and even members of the Guernsey County Emergency Management Agency.
