A new hospital and apartments on UF/Scripps land? What to know in Jupiter this week

Happy Thursday, and welcome to The Post on Jupiter.

For more than a decade, both Jupiter folks and our neighbors in Palm Beach Gardens have awaited plans for 70 acres of vacant land just south of Donald Ross Road that was once owned by the Scripps Research Institute.

Well, my colleague Alex Clough got a bombshell scoop last week: A specialty hospital and apartments are slated for that property, which now falls in the hands of the University of Florida after it bought Scripps earlier this year for just $100.

Check out Alex's razor-sharp reporting on the scoop below.

Also in this week's newsletter is a comprehensive look at what's changed in the 364 days since the tragic collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside.

I put together part of the story on what we've seen change here in north county. That part is at the end of the story below.

On a lighter note, I went on my first turtle walk on Friday night at John D. MacArthur State Beach Park. Early in the night, we found a nesting Loggerhead sea turtle and as we were watching her drop her clutch into her nest, another nesting mama turtle walked up right behind our group.

The ranger told us to move quietly and slowly to the side, where we got to watch two Loggerheads nest right next to each other at the same time. I didn't get any pictures (no phones allowed!), but it was one of the most miraculous things I've ever seen.

Have a great weekend, Jupiter.
