Casa Kia, in partnership with The Hospitals of Providence, honored four health care workers who have served the community during the pandemic.
And one of them drove away with a new 2022 Kia Soul.
The Hospitals of Providence randomly selected one finalist from each of its four El Paso campuses for the opportunity to win the new car.
The four finalists met at the Casa Kia dealership at 1374 George Dieter Drive on Wednesday morning for the drawing ceremony that determined who got to drive off with the new vehicle.
Among the staff workers and dealership partners present at the event were Providence CEO Nicholas Tejeda and Vice President of Casa Auto Group Luke Lowenfield, who showed their support and gratitude for the health care workers.
The event, they explained, was meant to thank those who dedicated their time and energy to keep El Paso residents safe and healthy.
In a news release, the general manager of Casa Kia, Junior Soto, also expressed his appreciation to the nurses at Providence.
"The brave and dedicated workers at The Hospitals of Providence have given their heart and soul to the community," Soto said. "Casa Kia thinks they deserve some Soul back. It's our way of expressing our gratitude not just to The Hospitals of Providence, but to health care workers everywhere."
After the words from the managers at Casa Kia, the moment came to finally draw the winner.
In a box, the names of the four contestants, Estela Navarro, Ana Zaragoza, Dámaris Gonzalez and Jose Rodriguez, were placed securely to be drawn by a random attendee.
Each contestant was randomly picked and given a key.
Jose Rodriguez, from The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus, won the new vehicle.
At first, Rodriguez didn't believe he had won.
When a beep went off, he thought one of his peers had won. But when he pressed the button a second time, that's when he felt the emotion rush in.
Rodriguez later stated that the car will help his teenage daughter once she commutes to school next year.
From health care professionals to environmental services staff, any worker at The Hospitals of Providence campuses in El Paso was eligible to participate.
