With more than 30 years of experience in the entertainment industry, Lili Estefan and Raúl de Molina are among the most recognized personalities on Spanish-language television. His list of awards includes several Emmy Awards and countless recognitions for his philanthropy. Both have received their own stars on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars and on Mexico’s famed Paseo de las Luminarias.

The presenters of “El Gordo and La Flaca” will receive their Hollywood star along with various figures from music, film, television and sports. The list includes Schitt’s Creek co-creator and star Eugene Levy; actress and activist Kerry Washington; doctor-turned-actor Ken Jeong and actor-host Mario Lopez.

El Nuevo Herald spoke with Lili and Raúl from their homes in Miami.

What does receiving this star mean to you?

Raúl: Actually, I didn’t expect it. It goes without saying that I am proud that two Cuban kids like me and Lili could earn this kind of recognition, that we’ve become so popular with so many different nationalities. That doesn’t happen over night. Right now I only think of my mother, who fought so hard for me to get ahead. I wish she was alive!

Lili: I am on cloud nine. Especially since this recognition coincides with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the program. The funny thing is that Raúl will receive his star and I will receive mine at the same time, something that doesn’t happen every day.

Do you think it will change your life?

Raúl: I don’t think so, I rather see it as a tribute to the efforts of a career that has spanned more than 30 continuous years. You can’t imagine the amount of congratulations we have received since the news broke.

Lili: It changes your life because not everyone gets the opportunity to be on the Walk of Fame. I remember when I visited it for the first time more than 40 years ago, I did not imagine that one day my name would be there. So much has happened since then!

What have been the great moments of the show?

Raúl: I think they have all been important. Figures of the stature of Salma Hayek, Eva Méndez, Sofía Vergara and even Bad Bunny have passed through there. Mentioning them all would be impossible.

Lili: My children were born and grow up during this program, and that is an indelible memory. But it has also had sad moments, like the day we had to break the news of the death of singer Jenny Rivera. To count the most impressive moments from our show, you’d need to broadcast a thousand hours.

What do you attribute your show’s success with audiences over so many years?

Raul: I don’t know. I think that the key to our success is that we are normal people aren’t acting in front of the cameras. It’s something that people appreciate and appreciate every time they decide to tune in.

Lili: There is no secret to success to win over audiences. But in our case our chemistry works, although we are very different. With Raúl you never know when he is serious. He is like a big kid. However, I am more cautious. I always think things twice before saying them. On the other hand, we have credibility. We never resort to fake news to get viewers. Maybe that would be our formula.
