HUDSON — The County Club of Hudson gave a warm welcome to 142 youth golfers Tuesday for the 2022 Hudson Junior Invitational.

Maybe it was more like a sweltering welcome.

Dealing with temperatures in the 90s, the leaders remain close after the first day.

In the boys field, four golfers share the lead after two-under-par rounds of 70. They include Dublin's Sheil Iyer, Monclova's Logan Sutto, Columbus' Brady Catalano and Aaron DeWitt of Winter Haven, Florida.

The top local golfer after round one is Archbishop Hoban junior and Stow native Jack Vojtko, who sits in a five-player pack one stroke off the lead at 71.

He is joined there by Indianapolis' Leo Wessell, who took third last year, and Columbia Station's Bradley Chill, who was part of Cleveland St. Ignatius' state title team last fall.

Also at one-under are the top two international golfers: Benjamin Garcia of Monterrey, Mexico and Chenqi Wu from Xiamen, China.

A total of 32 golfers are within four strokes of the lead.

In the girls field, even par turned out to be a good score, as Raina Ports of Oro Valley, Arizona, leads with a 72.

North Canton's Avery Wright is one stroke behind after a one-over-par 73. Wright tied for fourth last year.

Ashland's Claire Paramore, Meghan Zambruno of Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, and Alexandra Petroch of Hermitage, Pennsylvania are tied for third, two strokes behind.

Golf resumed Wednesday with the first girls group teeing off at 6:45 a.m.
