It’s hot in NYC, but is it record-breaking heat for April?

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Sure, the 86-degree high expected Monday is hot. But it’s not record-breaking.

New York City will see a bit of summer weather to start out the week, with temperatures soaring over 80 degrees and some rain showers possible. But the mid-80 highs won’t break the city thermometer.

The hottest day on record for April 29 is an 89-degree high, recorded in 1974, according to the National Weather Service. On average, though, New York City sees a high of 67 degrees on April 29, according to AccuWeather.

It may not break historic highs, but Monday’s weather definitely soars over last year’s.

The average April temperature for New York City in 2023 sat just below 60 degrees – and didn’t jump up above 70 degrees until June, National Weather Service data show.

On April 29 2023, the city saw a high of 53 and a low of 47, according to AccuWeather. Temperatures did exceed 80 degrees last April during the week of the 10th, but remained in the mid 50’s and 60’s for the rest of the month.

The highest temperature ever recorded in April is 96 degrees, which happened first on April 18, 1976 and again on April 17, 2022.
