After Hot Spot closed, Doylestown was left without a Greek eatery. That's about to change.

It’s been three decades since Gus Mamounas and Jimmy Giannoumis ran a restaurant together.

But the two naturally fell into stride as they worked one afternoon on the final preparations inside Opa Grille, a new Greek American restaurant opening in Doylestown Borough on Wednesday.

Both Greek immigrants from the island of Chios, Mamounas and Giannoumis first brought their cooking to the public through The Acropolis, a Greek restaurant at The Gallery in Philadelphia that they owned together for more than 10 years.

Since then, they’ve both continued on in the Greek food industry, Mamounas with his own food delivery service and Giannoumis as a cook for 25 years at Hot Spot, which closed last December, leaving Doylestown without a Greek restaurant.

So, the timing seemed right for the two to go into business together once again, explained Demetria Damian, who will be working alongside her father and uncle.

“It was always just a dream they talked about. With Hot spot closing, it freed my uncle up,” she said.

At Opa Grille, they’ve created a menu made up of family recipes passed down through the generations with Greek favorites such as spanakopita and chicken souvlaki.

“It’s incredible authentic Greek food. It’s literally food that my father makes for us for dinner. So, it’s all homemade,” Damian said.
