Hot Springs woman identified as person who died in Aug. 11 wreck north of Aberdeen

A Hot Springs woman has been identified as the person who died Aug. 11 in a one-vehicle crash 19 miles north of Aberdeen.

Darlene Leigh, 79, was a passenger in a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan that was northbound on Brown County 14, according to preliminary information released from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Marcene Frasier, 69, of Shingletown, Calif., was the driver, according to the release. When she reached the intersection with state Highway 10, she didn't stop at a stop sign. Frasier then hit a dip and lost control. Her vehicle went into the east ditch and hit a tree, per the release.

Leigh was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Frasier and passengers Cathy Scribner, 65, of Shingletown, Calif., and Debra Maglietto, 68, of Carlsbad, Calif., were injured, according to the release.

All four occupants were wearing seat belts.

The crash was reported at 6:36 p.m. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
