It's hot this week. Here are some places in Evansville where you can stay cool

Enter Evansville — asphalt sizzles, there's not much of a breeze in the air, and the sun's rays are scorching.

It's hot out there.

Along with portions of Southwestern Indiana, Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois, people in Evansville find themselves this week fighting an oppressive early June heat wave.

The excessive heat warning continues through at least 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the U.S. National Weather Service.

The heat index (the "feels like" temperature found by combining the heat and humidity) is predicted to reach up to 112 degrees Tuesday afternoon and 106 degrees Wednesday afternoon, and experts advise that you stay indoors and in air conditioning.

These record temperatures pose elevated risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Some common symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, headaches, muscle cramps, pale and clammy skin, fainting, nausea, and vomiting.

Heat stroke is characterized by a rapid, strong pulse and high body temperatures exceeding 103 degrees. Other symptoms include throbbing headaches, altered behavior such as slurred speech, and rapid or fast breathing. Heat stroke is a serious health condition. If you are experiencing symptoms of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.
