According to management, the hotel has been in Downtown Cleveland’s Public Square for 105 years. Now, Hotel Cleveland renovations are nearing completion.

“Beyond being restored to its former glory, the project will move Hotel Cleveland into the future with the contemporary refinements this important historic building and its guests deserve,” according to a press release from the hotel.

According to General Manager Frank McGee on Wednesday, Hotel Cleveland was the original name of the hotel when it opened in Dec. of 1918.

“It’s very important to us to keep the historic aspect of the hotel. So what we’re doing is just renovating and incorporating all the stories of this hotel into the new Hotel Cleveland,” McGee told Fox 8.

Marous Brothers Construction is the design and builder for this restoration project, which began in Nov. of 2022 and is now set to open in less than two months.

“Part of Hotel Cleveland is going to be telling the story of Cleveland. So we’re going to tell the story of Cleveland over the last 105 years and we’re going to use current experiences that our guests have to continue to tell that story”

According to McGee, renovations are about 80% done. The hotel will have 491 guest rooms with 50 suits and just over 60,000 square feet of meeting space.

In its century-plus existence, Renaissance Cleveland has gone by several names, including Sheraton Cleveland in the 1960s. That’s when the Grand Ballroom opened.
