A hotel coming to downtown Milwaukee's Deer District is to open in early 2023.

The Trade Hotel MKE, a 207-room Marriott Autograph Hotel under construction north of Fiserv Forum, staged a topping-off ceremony Wednesday to mark reaching its highest point.

The nine-story building is being developed at 420 W. Juneau Ave. in the former Park East Freeway strip.

The project site is among the vacant lots given to the Milwaukee Bucks by Milwaukee County as part of the public-private financing package for Fiserv Forum.

Madison-based North Central Group LLC will operate The Trade on land leased from the basketball club.

The hotel will feature a two-level restaurant and lounge at the corner of West Juneau and North Phillips avenues, as well as street-level retail space at the corner of Juneau Avenue and Fifth Street.

The ninth floor will feature a second restaurant and bar, with both indoor and outdoor space.

North Central plans to lease stalls at the Fiserv Forum parking structure for hotel guests, with plans for a parking structure north of the hotel as that block is further developed.

The Trade will have around 100 hotel and restaurant jobs. Over 100 construction jobs are involved in the project, with Madison-based J.H. Findorff & Son Inc. serving as general contractor.

The hotel's construction has come at a challenging time, given both inflated construction material costs as well as supply chain issues, said Andy Inman, North Central's vice president of development, in remarks at the ceremony.
