After being crushed by the pandemic, the hotel industry is positioning for a strong comeback. According to Demand360 business intelligence data from Amadeus, global hotel occupancy is on the up, with occupancy levels standing at 46% in April, up from a mere 13% in April 2020.

Though there is still profound uncertainty surrounding the pandemic and the more contagious Delta variant driving a surge of cases in the U.S., the hospitality sector isn’t dialing down the momentum. All over the world, hoteliers are rolling out the red carpet for new hotel launches, eager to bring guests the most decadent offerings.
Here’s a look at some of the most lavish new hotels coming to a destination near (or very far from) you, as well as those that have already opened their doors this year. These luxurious spots strive to be the light at the end of the tunnel and a dream getaway following one of our world’s darkest hours.

Etéreo on Riviera Maya, Mexico
Announced in 2019, Auberge Resorts Collection made good on its promise to unveil its fourth property in Mexico this year. Etéreo (Spanish for “ethereal”) is located on the white-sanded shores of the Riviera Maya. Comprising 75 contemporary guesthouses, two restaurants and a spa, the luxury resort is a nest of coral stone structures detailed with Mayan references and designed to appear like a tropical island floating amid lush vegetation. A studio room goes for about $1,500 a night, but if you plan a longer stay, every fourth night is free.
Stanly Ranch Resort in Napa, California
Slated to open in October, the Stanly Ranch Resort is a 135 open-space cottage resort and spa skirting the southern edge of Napa Valley, overlooking the Napa River. Spanning 700 acres, the resort features vineyards, villas, gardens and a public winery. Each cottage boasts a window wall and patios with views of the vast vineyards and the rolling Mayacamas Mountains. Rooms start at around $1,000 per night.

Ritz-Carlton Maldives at Fari Islands
The first Ritz-Carlton resort in the Maldives at Fari Islands opened for business on June 1. Sleekly designed by the late Australian architect Kerry Hill, the resort encompasses white sand beaches, enchanting lagoons and prime beachfront real estate. The resort touts 100 villas, seven restaurants, two bars and a spa suite among other swanky accommodations. It is the third five-star property from the Marriott group in the Maldives. A room costs around $1,500 a night.
Six Senses Shaharut, Israel
Opening on Aug. 5, the Six Senses Shaharut in Israel’s Negev Desert in Arava Valley boasts 60 suites and pool villas, all seamlessly integrated into the region’s natural arid climate and desert topography. Each villa was built from local rocks and pigments, and much of the furnishing was provided by community artisans. The resort has a yoga studio, nail salon, restaurant, poolside bar and a Bedouin-style dining area. Rates start at around $1,000 a night.

Mondrian Shoreditch in London
Newly opened this summer, the Mondrian Shoreditch is a 120-room hotel in Shoreditch, a bustling district in London. The hotel has 13 suites, a pool, gym and culinary offerings by famed chef Dani García. Guests can dine at BiBo Shoreditch, a Spanish kitchen in a courtyard setting, along with a café and cocktail bar stocked only with goods from local farmers and bakeries. For a more exclusive breakfast, guests can access the otherwise members-only space The Curtain. A deluxe one-bedroom suite averages £591.94 (or just over $800) a night.
Montage Big Sky in Montana
In the heart of the Mountain West, Montana, Montage Big Sky will open near the end of 2021, aiming to serve guests with a venturesome winter spirit and a love of the great outdoors. A 45-minute drive from Yellowstone National Park, the ski-friendly resort has 150 rooms and suites and 39 residences. Guests also have access to Big Sky Resort, fly-fishing rivers, an exclusive golf course, “mountain-inspired dining” and a 10,000-square-foot Spa Montage. Rooms start at around $1,000 a night, with a minimum two-night stay required for most available dates.
