New hotels, spa may be coming to Rye Brook, Beacon; historic sites reopen after 2 years

In Rye Brook, a developer is getting ready to propose a new life for the now closed Doral Arrowwood property including a hotel, spa and residences. I will have more on what's proposed for the site, which once included a hotel and golf course, later this week. It's not the only lower Hudson Valley hotel to be repurposed. Take a look at what's happened to other hotel properties in the area.

In Dutchess County, there's news that Beacon may become home to a new spa. Family-owned small chain company Mirbeau, which already runs a hotel and spa in Rhinebeck,  is looking to the city for approval to turn the 161-year-old Tioronda Estate on Route 9D.

After two years the Historic Hudson Valley site Philipsburg Manor has reopened to the public and Kykuit, the Rockefeller estate, is set to welcome visitors back on Saturday. Since it was last open, Philipsburg Manor's Millpond Bridge was reconstructed, now giving guests direct access to the Manor House from the visitors center.

In national news, Abbott, a baby formula producer, and the Food and Drug Administration have come to an agreement about the reopening of a Michigan plant that was shut down due to recalls earlier in the year. According to a report by USA Today reporter Jayme Deerwester, the factory "would initially produce specialty metabolic formulas EleCare and Alimentum, followed by Similac and eventually other formulas." The factory could be operational in two weeks and could potentially help with the formula shortage.
