Houk records first shutout in goal

Jan. 30—BOLTON — Aidan Houk, a senior from Coventry High School, made 17 saves in goal to record his first shutout on Friday night as the Northeastern Shamrocks blanked E.O. Smith/Tolland in a Central Connecticut Conference South Division game at the Bolton Ice Palace.

Following a scoreless first period, the Shamrocks (2-9, 2-7 league) took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Landon Bell — assisted by Alex Stoner — and Stoner made it a 2-goal lead, 59 seconds later, with assists from Ross Sutherland and Shane Pourmaleki.

Houk completed the shutout as the Shamrocks avenged a 5-4 loss to the Bucks (4-8, 3-5) on Dec. 26 at the University of Connecticut's Freitas Ice Forum.

The win snapped a 9-game losing streak. Northeastern won its season opener over Southington- Coginchaug-Westbrook on Dec. 17.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jill Dingler scored all 15 of her points in the first half — including 12 in the first quarter — in helping lift E.O. Smith in its 44-37 non-conference victory Saturday over New London in Storrs.

Maddy Hughes added nine points, including seven in the second quarter, when the Panthers (12-3) scored eight consecutive points in transition to take a 30-21 lead into the halftime break.

Lilli Clark had seven points and shot 4-of-5 at the foul line in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

Naylce Dudley scored 16 points and Serenity Lancaster added 15 for the Whalers (9-5), who were ranked No. 10 in last week's GameTimeCT. com state poll.

Windham jumped out to a 10-0 lead and took a commanding 36-13 lead at halftime en route to a 66-41 Eastern Connecticut Conference inter- division victory over Lyman Memorial Saturday at Callaghan Gymnasium.

Hailey Flores scored 29 points with six 3-pointers for the Whips (8-7), who had 11 3-point field goals on the night and had 19 assists as a team. Aniya Jenkins added 13 points, six rebounds and five asissts for Windham with Jaelize Rivera finishing with nine rebounds, four assists and four rebounds and Alyssa Lebiszczak had nine rebounds and four assists.
