Houma man dies in crash with 18-wheeler in Raceland

A Houma man was killed Wednesday morning in a crash involving an 18-wheeler in Raceland, State Police said.

The crash claimed the life of 30-year-old Drew Bourg II.

The collision occurred around 6 a.m. on U.S. 90 east just east of La. 308. A 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer was stopped in a center turn lane on U.S. 90 facing north. Bourg was traveling at the same time east on U.S. 90 in a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze.

For reasons still under investigation, Cruze struck the back of the 18-wheeler that was partially in the left lane, State Police said.

Though Bourg was wearing a seat belt, he suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene, authorities said. The tractor-trailer driver was wearing a seat belt and had no injuries.

Standard toxicology samples were collected from Bourg, police said. A breath sample from the other driver showed no alcohol present.

The crash remains under investigation.
