Houma man indicted on multiple drug charges

Houma man pleads guilty to 5 counts of possession of child pornography

A Houma man is facing decades in prison after being indicted on drug and weapons charges.

A federal grand jury last week found enough evidence to charge Beau Hebert, 40, with multiple counts of distribution and possession with intent to distribute over 50 grams of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm while trafficking drugs.

An indictment does not presume guilt or innocence but indicates the grand jury found prosecutors presented enough evidence to warrant a trial on the charge.

According to court documents, Hebert was found to be in possession of a Glock 9mm handgun, over 50 grams of methamphetamine on Dec. 9 and Jan. 21. He had previously been convicted in Terrebonne on drug-related charges July 12, 2016, Feb. 12, 2009 and June 11, 2007.

If convicted of the drug charges, Hebert faces a minimum 10-year sentence, a $10 million fine and five years of supervised release, prosecutors said. If convicted of the weapons charges, he faces up to 10 years behind bars and will receive a consecutive five-year sentence if convicted of possessing a gun while trafficking drugs.

The indictment resulted from an investigation conducted by federal, state and local authorities to “combat drug trafficking and is the nation’s primary tool for disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations, targeting national and regional level drug trafficking organizations and coordinating the necessary law enforcement entities and resources to disrupt or dismantle the targeted criminal organization and seize their assets,” prosecutors said in a release.

Hebert is scheduled to be arraigned in federal court Monday in New Orleans.
