Houma motorcyclist dead, Mississippi man charged with DWI and vehicular homicide

A Houma motorcyclist is dead after a drunk driver turned in front of him, State Police say.

Louisiana State Police charged John Vice, of Byhalia Mississippi, with vehicular homicide, DWI 4th offense, and failure to yield while turning at an intersection in connection with a wreck that claimed the life of Dominic Douglas, 30, of Houma.

According to a release by police, Vice was driving a 2021 RAM 2500 south on LA 316, Friday, Sept.15, just before 10 p.m.

Douglas was traveling north on a 2001 Suzuki Hayabusa.

According to State Police, Vice failed to yield to oncoming traffic and made a left turn onto Banks Boulevard into the path of the motorcycle. Douglas attempted to stop, but hit the RAM and was thrown from the motorcycle, the release said.

Douglas was wearing a helmet, but suffered serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died. Vice was properly restrained and suffered no injuries.

Law enforcement suspected impairment on the part of Vice, who was arrested. Vice refused a toxicology sample, but a warrant was obtained and a sample was taken. A toxicology sample was also gathered from Douglas.
