'After Hours with Meg Shaffer & Andrew Shaffer' to take place at DCPL

Oct. 13—Bestselling authors and husband-and-wife Andrew Shaffer and Tiffany Reisz — the latter under the pen name Meg Shaffer — will be making an appearance in Owensboro this weekend for the free "After Hours with Meg Shaffer & Andrew Shaffer" event starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Daviess County Public Library.

Reisz, an Owensboro native and graduate of Owensboro High School, is looking forward to heading back home to share some of her professional experiences and see some familiar faces.

"You know, I've never done a book signing or book event in Owensboro. For some reason, it just never happened," she said.

"My mom has promised that all of her co-workers are coming," Reisz laughed.

Reisz noted the support and encouragement she received from her teachers, and she's looking forward to sharing her journey with local residents.

"It'll be really fun," she said. "It'll be coming full-circle from my first creative writing in the first grade (when) I was writing a poem about the moon, to now (being) 45 years old with my 'Book of the Month Club' book from Random House."

Originally from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Shaffer is happy to be coming to a place that he feels will be "like a family reunion" for the two of them.

"Hometown shows are always fun," he said. "When I go back to Iowa and I do something, I'll see friends that I don't even see on Facebook."

The couple, currently based in Louisville, first met at a romance novel convention 12 years ago — a genre they both became fond of during their respective upbringings.

"I started reading romances in middle school when my mom got some Harlequins in a box that she didn't read. She didn't even crack the covers. I have no idea how they even got into our house," Reisz said. "But I read them and loved them."

"Romance and 'Star Trek' novels were the first grown-up books I read in middle school," Reisz laughed.
