House approves $1.7 trillion federal spending bill

Yahoo Finance's Dave Briggs reports that the House has passed the $1.7 trillion spending bill.

DAVE BRIGGS: All right, a government shutdown is officially averted. The House of Representatives passing a bill to fund the federal government for the rest of the fiscal year. It now goes to President Biden, who has said he's eager to sign it into law.

The legislation provides $772 billion for nondefense discretionary programs, $858 billion in defense funding. It also contains $44 billion for Ukraine assistance.

The bill is seen as a bipartisan win for President Biden and the final achievement for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who plans to step down from leadership in the next Congress.
