House of the Dragon is rounding out its cast ahead of season 2, throwing four new characters into the mix.

The Game of Thrones prequel has added Slow Horses' Freddie Fox and Raised by Wolves' Abubakar Salim to its ensemble (via Deadline).

The former will side with the Green as Ser Gwayne Hightower, son of Otto Hightower, brother to Queen Alicent, and uncle to King Aegon, Queen Helaena, and Prince Aemond. Meanwhile, the latter may just be on Queen Rhaenyra's side as Alyn of Hull, a Velaryon fleet sailor who served in the Stepstones campaign.

Penny Dreadful's Simon Russell Beale and GLOW's Gayle Rankin have also been cast as two Harrenhal residents: Lord Larys's great-uncle Ser Simon Strong and healer Alys Rivers, respectively.

The four actors join returning stars from season one, including Emma D'Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, and Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen – with Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans also reprising their roles.

The first season of the HBO series treated fans to a graphic childbirth scene, multiple gruesome deaths and a few time jumps, setting up the civil war between House Targaryen and House Hightower.

Season 2 is set to further explore the conflict, in which friends-turned-enemies Rhaenyra and Alicent become scapegoats of more insidious political ploys.

House of the Dragon airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
