Stars of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, gathered on the red carpet on Thursday for the European premiere in Amsterdam.

Actress Emily Carey, 19, appeared in a daring cut-out, deep green, satin long dress. She was joined by former Doctor Who and co-star Matt Smith, 39, who wore a grey suit and shirt to match.

Carey plays the younger Alicent Hightower in the prequel, while Smith plays Prince Daemon Targaryen.

Departing from the softer look of her character, Carey went for dark glam eye make-up with her locks swept up into a bun.

The new ten-episode series will focus on House Targaryen and their reign in Westeros 200 years before any of the events in Game of Thrones.

Viewers can expect to see the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons as the series takes plot points from the Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin’s novel, Fire and Blood.

Showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, who is also a director on Game of Thrones, helped create the spin-off with R.R. Martin.

Completing the cast are Paddy Considine (King Viserys I), Emmy D’Arcy (Viserys’ first child, Princess Rhaenrya), Rhys Ifans (Ser Otto Hightower), Olivia Cooke (Otto’s daughter, Lady Alicent Hightower), Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole), Milly Alcock (young Rhaenrya), Sonyo Mizuno (Mysaria), Eve Best and Steve Toussaint (Princess Rhaenys Velaryon and Lord Corlys Velaryo).

Condal told Entertainment Weekly: “It was very important for Miguel and I to create a show that was not another bunch of white people on the screen.

“We wanted to find a way to put diversity in the show, but we didn’t want to do it in a way that felt like it was an afterthought or, worse, tokenism.”

House of the Dragon is set to premiere on HBO Max later in September, three years on from the Game of Thrones finale.
