Former in-house lawyer Judy Wong has left Ernst & Young to serve as top attorney for a Hong Kong-based business advisory and services company.

As general counsel for Tricor Group, Wong will focus on compliance issues and “be a key contact point for the various government bodies and jurisdictions Tricor partners with to bolster its compliance functions,” the company stated Sunday evening in a news release.

Tricor describes itself as a “business enabler” and “Asia’s leading provider of integrated business, corporate, investor, human resources and payroll, and corporate trust and debt services.”

The company considers Wong to be a key player in its effort to expand its global business. It lured her away from EY as the Big Four continues its aggressive expansion into the legal market, especially in Asia.

Wong spent nearly eight years at EY, where she first served as legal counsel before being promoted to assistant general counsel and, later, deputy general counsel, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before she joined EY, Wong worked as a consultant for Boase Cohen & Collins, a boutique dispute resolution law firm in Hong Kong.

Wong’s new boss, Tricor Group CEO Lennard Yong, said in a prepared statement that the company has a presence in 20 countries and territories and “each of these markets represents a unique and complex regulatory environment.”

Yong expected that Wong “will play a central role as we continue to look for new growth opportunities in Asia.” He added that her “robust legal experience and expertise will ensure that we maintain the highest standards of legal and ethical behavior in every market we operate in.”

Wong has a law degree from the University of Hong Kong and has been practicing since 1993.
