House of the Dragon season two has begun filming.

The much-anticipated news was announced by the show's official Twitter account which posted a picture of the Iron Throne along with the caption: "It's time to return to King's Landing. Season 2 of #HouseoftheDragon is now in production."

Much of the praise was focussed on the show's character development and acting performances, particularly those from Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy and Milly Alcock.

Fans have greeted the news with the enthusiasm you'd expect with one saying: "The best news of the week."

Another fan was hoping for some casting news: "Okay but where is Alys, Nettles and Daeron casting announcement."

A number of the cast from the first season won't return for the second either due to being killed off or replaced older actors.

The most notable departure is that of Paddy Considine who played King Viserys I Targaryen before dying in the eigth episode.

At this year's Golden Globes, House of the Dragon picked up the big win of Best Drama Show with the award collected by D'Arcy, Alcock and series co-creator Miguel Sapochnik.

A clip of the trio on stage went viral after Alcock appeared to be drunk at the ceremony.

Alcock, who plays the younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen, seemed tipsy as Sapochnik gave his speech and could be seen leaning on D'Arcy.

Alcock made reference to the incident on her Instagram Stories, reposting a picture of her on stage along with the caption "Ummmmmm".

The 23-year-old Australian actor is set to make her West End debut later this year in a production of The Crucible.

Alcock will play Abigail who was previously portrayed by Winona Ryder in the 1996 film version that also starred Daniel Day-Lewis.
