Household hazardous waste collection event May 1

Apr. 16—MOSES LAKE — Grant County Public Works will have a hazardous waste collection event from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 1 at the Grant County Road District 2 shop, 12171 Wheeler Road in Moses Lake.

Only household waste will be accepted. Containers must be five gallons or smaller, and must be in the trunk of a car or a pickup bed. Containers will not be returned.

Acceptable items include oil-based paints and stains, latex paint and paint thinners, household cleaning products, pool and spa chemicals, pesticides and herbicides. Antifreeze, brake fluid, fire extinguishers, road flares and old gasoline also will be accepted, among other products.

All lights containing mercury will be accepted, which includes fluorescent tubes and bulbs, compact fluorescent lights (CFL) and high intensity discharge (HID) bulbs. A maximum of 10 lights will be accepted.
