Housing development breaks ground in Rio Communities

Jan. 17—Developers and local officials broke ground Wednesday on a new 35-home subdivision in Valencia County.

The development is in Tierra del Sol within Rio Communities, which is about 45 minutes south of Albuquerque on the east side of the Rio Grande.

The homes will be built by Dwell Builders, which has plans to build 350 new homes in the next 10 years. The company recently purchased a little more than five acres of land off of Highway 304, which it plans to develop, according to a news release announcing the development.

"We were impressed with the city, its rural nature yet access to larger communities like Los Lunas and Albuquerque," Carlos Davis, one of the owners of Dwell Builders, said in a statement. "We had no idea where Rio Communities was until we explored it."

The company plans for three different models of homes, which all have three bedrooms and two bathrooms along with an attached two-car garage.

One of the models is 1,525 square feet and starts at $339,00. The middle size is 1,734 square feet and is starting at $389,000. The largest home will be 2,100 square feet and has an additional room. That model of home starts at $439,000.

Rio Communities was incorporated in 2013.

We are committed to adding to the economic prosperity of the region," said Alex Horton, who also owns Dwell Builders. "To improve the economy, the first step is having more roofs, which will generate more tax revenue. And with the economic development that is happening, those new employees must have a place to live."
