The Texas Longhorns can officially mark their calendars.

The Big 12 released the schedule for its 2023 football season on Tuesday. With the release, Texas found out that its conference calendar contains four home games, four road games and its annual get-together at the Cotton Bowl with Oklahoma.

For UT, the schedule features games against many of the usual suspects. Texas must play road games at Baylor and TCU this season, but Texas Tech is coming to town the day after Thanksgiving. Just like they have in every year since 1912, Texas and Oklahoma will meet in Dallas. That game is scheduled for Oct. 7.

Oklahoma State and West Virginia are missing from the Longhorns' schedule this year. Texas will instead face Big 12 newcomers BYU and Houston. Texas and Houston haven't played in over 20 years, but that rivalry will resume in Houston on Oct. 21. BYU will be UT's guest at Royal-Memorial Stadium the following week.

Central Florida and Cincinnati, who are joining the Big 12 this year alongside BYU and Houston, are also missing from UT's slate of games.

The non-conference portion of UT's schedule had already been set. Texas opens the 2023 season with a home game on Sept. 2 against Rice, and Wyoming is scheduled to be in town on Sept. 16. On Sept. 9, Texas will travel to Alabama and complete a home-and-home arrangement that brought the Crimson Tide to Austin last September.

Here's Texas' 2023 schedule. The 12 teams that Texas will face in 2023 combined for a 92-66 record in 2022. Ten of those teams reached a bowl game. Seven finished the season a winning record. TCU was beaten by Georgia in the NCAA's championship game:

  • Sept. 2: Rice

  • Sept. 9: at Alabama

  • Sept. 16: Wyoming

  • Sept. 23: at Baylor

  • Sept. 30: Kansas

  • Oct. 7: Oklahoma (Dallas)

  • Oct. 21: at Houston

  • Oct. 28: BYU

  • Nov. 4: Kansas State

  • Nov. 11: at TCU

  • Nov. 18: at Iowa State

  • Nov. 24: Texas Tech

Fans won't have to wait until September to get a look at the team that Texas expects to field this season. The annual Orange-White spring game has been set for April 15.
