Houston Influencer Detained in Dubai for Yelling in Public
Tierra Young Allen, a Houston woman, remains in custody in Dubai after being detained for screaming in public.
KRIV-TV reports that Young Allen was first arrested in May after being involved in a car accident in Dubai.
Young Allen is a popular social media influencer, who is known as Sassy Trucker.
Young Allen’s friend was driving the car car involved in the accident.
Young Allen visited the rental car company to retrieve personal items left in the vehicle. Those included her credit card, and other items. But employees of the rental company told her that she would have to pay to have the items returned to her.
It is reported that the situation became more tense after a young man at the rental company started screaming at Young Allen. And she responded by raising her voice back at him.
Allen was unaware that raising your voice is prohibited in Dubai. This is especially true for women. And she has since been charged and is facing possible time in prison.
Speaking to KRIV-TV, the mother of Young Allen, Tina Baxter, said she has been working to get her daughter out of custody.
“It’s been very emotional. There are some days I stay up all night crying,” she said.
Advocating for a Return
Young Allen has had her passport confiscated. There is a travel ban also in place for her while she awaits the outcome of the investigation. Young Allen does not have an attorney in Dubai.
“She is in jail for one reason and one reason alone, she raised her voice. In that country, a female is not even allowed to raise her voice. If she raises her voice it’s punishable by jail time,” community activist Quanell X told KRIV-TV.
“In our opinion, she did not commit a crime. Don’t punish women for doing the same thing a man can do in Dubai,” Quanell X added. “It’s not fair and it’s not right. I’ve reached out to Dubai Consulate. I’ve reached out to the American Consulate there in Dubai.”
