Houston Texans 2021 player profile: CB Desmond King

The Houston Texans’ secondary and special teams unit struggled for the majority of last season, but Nick Caserio made several offseason acquisitions for help in 2021. One of Caserio’s most prominent signings during free agency came by the arrival of one-time Pro-Bowler Desmond King.

As he prepares to play for his third team in less than 12 months, here is a look into the impact King can have on the Texans in 2021.

King's best contribution to the Texans this season will be his play on special teams. He earned All-Pro honors as a punt returner during his rookie season in 2018 and has since recorded 51 punts returns for two touchdowns while recording 455 yards. As a defensive back, King's on-field play will help the Texans cornerback unit from duplicating the disastrous results from the previous year. As a nickel corner, King allowed 35 catches on 51 targets for 299 yards and two pass deflections for both the Chargers and Titans in 2020.
