The Houston Texans drafted former Stanford Cardinal quarterback Davis Mills in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Davis had a decent junior season with the Cardinal in 2019. However, the COVID-19 season of 2020 provided only five games for Davis to put on good tape and prove his worth as a possible NFL quarterback.

Here is a look at the 22-year-old, who the Texans selected to help bridge the divide between the Deshaun Watson era and the Great Reset under center.

Mills has dealt with knee injuries, but contends that they have not been a problem throughout his career at Stanford. His touchdown totals were low through 14 collegiate games. Coach David Shaw believes Mills, had he stayed another year at Stanford, would have been one of the top-3 best quarterback prospects coming out in 2022, and possibly a top-15 overall draft pick. Mills will be providing competition at the position, which already has Ryan Finley and Pro Bowler Tyrod Taylor on the roster. "Davis played in a good program at Stanford," general manager Nick Caserio said on April 30. "Coach Shaw does a great job with their program offensively. Has some of the attributes that a quarterback that we like and possess and played well with his opportunities when he was on the field, so it was a situation where we like the player, we spent time with him before the draft, did our research, did our homework. And, again, it's about trying to create competition across the football team, across all position." Mills is the fourth player from Stanford the Texans have ever drafted.
