‘Face to face with my thoughts’: How one veteran overcame the physical and invisible wounds of war

Paid for by Wounded Warrior Project

John Rego’s transition from active duty to civilian life didn’t happen overnight. The post-9/11 veteran endured years of struggle and doubt after a building collapsed on him in Haditha, Iraq, and abruptly ended his military service. Wounded Warrior Project, and the community of veterans he befriended there, inspired Rego to not only embark on his own journey of healing, but also help others do the same. “My injuries aren't going to define who I am,” Rego says. “Only I can define who I am and who I am going to be.”

Watch the video above to see how Rego used physical wellness to turn his life around and support other veterans living with injuries and PTSD.
