How To Plan Your Outfits Using Pinterest

When it comes to Pinterest, I am deeply, deeply obsessed. I often find myself in what A calls a ‘scroll hole’ where I will be stuck pinning images of succulents when the sole reason that I got my phone out was to start a timer for the rice that I am now burning.

It is a tough addiction to kick, but it is also a pretty handy one at times. I love to use Pinterest for so many useful things like gift ideas, cool new ways to upcycle, healthy vegan eats, and my all time favorite outfit planning!

I am clearly deranged when it comes to planning (maybe neurotic is a better word?) and I spend a lot of my time trying to prep things in advance to make the future easier and my outfits are not an exception to this rule. I typically (and don’t think I am totally neurotic) plan a week’s worth of outfits on Sunday so that every morning of the week there is nothing to think about, I can just grab and go.

OK, so clearly planning outfits in advance is a great way to speed up your mornings, but how do you start planning? With the world of Pinterest at your fingertips, it is pretty dang simple. Here are my tips for how I plan each of my outfits out for the week in advance.

Check the Weather

This is a pretty obvious one, but I can still sometimes forget it - it is ingrained in my Californian nature to never need to check the weather. We all know it is probably not the best idea to wear a white t-shirt in the rain or a wool sweater in a scorcher. Check the weather Sunday night and plan accordingly.

Check You Calendar

So you know what the weather will look like each day, but what will your actual day look like? Are you going to have to run to a friend’s birthday dinner after work? Maybe plan an outfit that can easily convert from day to night with just an accessories change. Are you headed to the gym for spin class straight after work? Pack your gym bag in advance on Sunday!

This seriously makes your mornings run so smooth and is guaranteed to keep you on track for working out.

Research Your Looks

I am a big weirdo about this one and I like to make seasonal secret pinterest boards that feature outfits similar to something I would actually wear. The key here is to make sure that you are pinning looks that contain pieces you either already own or items that are very similar in aesthetic to things you already own. This technique is AMAZING for packing! Every time I go anywhere I make a secret Pinterest board for that destination where I pick out my outfits and plan multiple uses for each item (you can see some past packing guides here and here).
